Packaging fulfils important tasks in the food, pharmaceutical and beverage supply chain like
- Product protection (against spoilage or damage or organoleptic changes)
- Portioning
- Communication, Decoration and Branding
Especially by protecting the content - which commonly shows a higher environmental impact than the light weighting flexible packaging - the packaging fulfils an important function to reduce the overall carbon footprint. The overall carbon footprint would be raised tremendously by insufficient or inadequate packaging. Anyhow:

In order to determine the environmental impact of flexible packaging in the total supply chain and to work out potentials for optimization we actively participate in the performance of extensive Life Cycle Assessments coordinated by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) and Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE).
